Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in Mucosal Immunology

The Newberry laboratory in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis Missouri, USA is seeking to hire a postdoctoral fellow. This postdoctoral position will lead basic discovery research studies in the intestinal immune system. Techniques used in these studies include in vivo two photon imaging, multi-parameter flow cytometry and flow cytometric cell sorting, single cell RNA sequencing, ex vivo cellular assays, and multiple animal models. This is a unique opportunity to be trained in a wide array of techniques in a growing area of mucosal immunology, which can serve as a platform for a career as an independent investigator or a lead investigator in industry.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Trains under the supervision of a faculty mentor including (but not limited to):
1. Manages their own project, which should lead to a first author publication.
2. Develops expertise in cellular immunology techniques, imaging techniques, animal models.
3. Develops proficiency in career skills, including writing, public speaking, networking, and critical evaluation of scientific literature.
4. Presents scientific work both inside and outside the University with excellent oral communication skills.
5. Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
6. Prepares and submits papers on research with excellent writing skills.
7. Designs research experiments.
8. Evaluates research findings and reports results.
9. Conscientious discharge of his/her research responsibilities.
10. Maintain conformity with ethical standards in research.
11. Maintain compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.
12. Engage in open and timely discussion with his/her mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
13. Collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
14. Adherence to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations. All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.

Compensation and Benefits follow the guidelines set by the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, MO. Please see for details. Current starting salary for postdoctoral fellows at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis for fiscal year 2019 (July 1, 2018-June 30, 2019) is $47,484 not including fringe benefits.
PhD or MD, PhD degree.
Fluent in the English language with writing skills.
Previous work in immunology preferred, but not required.
